SGR was pleased to host the Board of the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA) for its 2-day meeting February 9-10. Steve O’Day was formally elected to the Board. SEEA promotes energy efficiency as a catalyst for economic growth, workforce development and energy security across 11 southeastern states. The Board includes representatives of important southeastern energy companies and institutions, including Duke Energy, Georgia Power, AGL Resources, CenterPoint Energy, Lockheed Martin, Opower, TVA, various providers of services and goods in energy efficiency, and universities including Georgia Tech and the University of North Carolina.

SGR Obtains Dismissal of Toxic Tort Lawsuit, Victory for Client
Last Friday, SGR environmental attorneys Andy Thompson and Steve O’Day achieved victory for SGR’s client, Alcoa, in a large toxic tort lawsuit. The case was first filed in 2004 and after defeating the plaintiffs’ efforts at class certification, the case was limited to twelve plaintiffs alleging that they developed beryllium sensitization and chronic beryllium disease as a result of alleged exposures during the manufacture of military aircraft at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia.
