ATLANTA (October 10, 2018) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that the firm has been recognized by Emory University School of Law through the new Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP Suite in the Center for Professional Development and Career Strategy. The honor was bestowed upon SGR in recognition of the firm’s contribution to the university during the law school’s centennial year. The official dedication ceremony and reception was held on October 1 with remarks by Interim Dean James Hughes, along with Emory Law alumni SGR Managing Partner Steve Forte and Partner John Ethridge.
In long term partnership with Emory Law, SGR has continued to support the university through its contributions in the spirit of name partner E. Smythe Gambrell. Mr. Gambrell served on Emory’s law faculty in the late 1920s and 1930s while also practicing law in Atlanta. In memory of his parents, he provided the lead gift for the building that houses the law school, known as Gambrell Hall, which opened in 1973. Additionally, Gambrell Drive is named for him. SGR is proud of the legacy left by Mr. Gambrell, who was a proponent of pro bono activities and founder of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society in 1924, serving as president for almost two decades.
With a 125-year history, SGR counts Emory Law among one of its most influential partnerships. Thirty percent of SGR attorneys are graduates of Emory Law. In addition, several of the firm’s partners serve as Emory Law adjunct professors.
