ATLANTA (July 28, 2022) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that attorney Edward J. Heppt, of the New York office, has been appointed to serve on the New York City Bar Association’s (City Bar’s) Council on Judicial Administration for 2022-2023. The Council on Judicial Administration coordinates the work of several of the City Bar’s court committees on issues that impact New York’s state and federal courts. Mr. Heppt previously served as Secretary of the City Bar’s State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction Committee.
The Council includes representatives from several City Bar committees, along with other experienced court practitioners and well-respected judges. Recent topics addressed by the Council include reports on the Judiciary Budget and the impact of the mandated budget cuts; the proposed terms for Housing Court Judges; proposals to amend the Code of Judicial Conduct and procedures before the Commission on Judicial Conduct; procedures regarding limitations on campaign contributions to judges; and the judicial salary increases to be established by the New York State Judicial Compensation Commission.
Edward Heppt is a Senior Associate in SGR’s Litigation Practice, where he focuses on complex commercial litigation and regularly represents clients in state and federal court and in arbitration. He has served as litigation counsel on a wide variety of commercial cases. Mr. Heppt has considerable experience litigating business and contract cases, aviation disputes, employment matters, construction disputes, partnership disputes, intellectual property, securities law, and business fraud cases.
