ATLANTA (June 30, 2020) – Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP (SGR) is pleased to announce that Atlanta White Collar Law Partner Anthony Cochran has been recognized by the Daily Report as one of the Best Mentors in the publication’s Georgia Legal Awards 2020. In lieu of the annual dinner reception, the awards were announced in an online video on June 24.
Nominations increased by 15% from the previous year, with awards that included Lifetime Achievement, Attorney of the Year, Litigation Team of the Year, Best Mentors, On the Rise, Best Social Mediators, In-House Department of the Year, Most Effective Deal Maker, Distinguished Leaders, and Innovators.
Given to senior level lawyers who have helped less-experienced colleagues become better lawyers, Mr. Cochran was among six lawyers who received the Best Mentors Award for 2020.
SGR colleague Emily Ward nominated Mr. Cochran stating, “Since the day I first interviewed with Tony, he has treated me as his equal. This approach demonstrates his belief that I can contribute just as much as he can, which has helped me become a trusted part of our client teams. It has made me believe in myself more. In my experience, it is rare for someone as esteemed as Tony to take such an active role in the development of the career of a younger attorney. It truly has set me up for success for years to come, and I am grateful for his support.”
“It is important for more experienced attorneys to guide their younger colleagues to become better lawyers – they have to learn by doing, which means they have to be given a fair opportunity to be out front, not just behind the scene in the library,” said Mr. Cochran. “You don’t learn how to hit a Major League curve ball sitting in the dugout watching a veteran hit. Plus, older lawyers can learn valuable lessons from younger colleagues, too.”
