Smith, Gambrell & Russell LLP (SGR) has added William Herbert to its International Section as Counsel to work with its growing number of Japanese clients. He has extensive experience representing leading Japanese companies in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, biotechnology, electronics, automobile, aerospace, telecommunications, software and financial services industries. He spent 10 years living and working in Japan. He speaks, reads and writes Japanese.

Before he joined SGR, Mr. Herbert worked in Tokyo as in-house counsel to one of Japan’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, then at a Japanese law firm which specializes in Intellectual Property.

He received his undergraduate degree in Japan Studies and Asian Languages & Literature from the University of Washington. He earned his J.D. from the University of Washington and concurrently earned his LL.M. in Asian and Comparative Law. He has also studied at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies in Japan.
