James J. Black appeared in an interview with the German newspaper Schwaebische Zeitung regarding US shareholder litigation in connection with the planned merger of ZF Friedrichshafen and TRW to form the 2nd-largest auto parts supplier in the world. Click HERE for the interview in German.  The interview was a follow-up to an interview that Jim gave in August with the same newspaper on possible transaction structures and US legal and regulatory aspects of the transaction.


SGR was listed as an organizer of Emory’s New-Age Diversity in the Legal Profession speaker series in the article “Emory Law Explores How to Make ‘Diversity a Reality Every Day.’”


SGR was mentioned in an article in the Patriot News (Pennsylvania) regarding Little League Baseball Inc. and infringements of its trademarks due to social media. Bloomberg News highlighted the original story and also mentioned the firm.


SGR’s CatchMark closing was the lead story (“CatchMark Acquires Georgia and Florida Timberlands for $111 Million”)  on Atlanta’s  Citybizlist on Friday October 3, 2014.

Smith, Gambrell & Russell secured a favorable result for its clients, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta and Catholic Charities Atlanta, exempting them from the contraceptive mandate of the government’s Affordable Care Act. Steve Forte acted on behalf of the Archdiocese and Catholic Charities. The ruling in the case, which granted a permanent injunction against the government from enforcing the Act, was covered by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Daily Report on March 27th.


Smith, Gambrell & Russell was highlighted on March 21st as part of the Daily Report’s “Atlanta Firm Financials” feature with the headline “2013 a Turnaround Year for Smith Gambrell.” Steve Forte was quoted and discussed expansion in our offices outside of Atlanta and the establishment of SGR Aviation Consulting.


Tim Bumann was quoted in The Wall Street Journal on March 20th discussing Toyota Motor Corp.’s $1.2 billion settlement, saying “The takeaway here is to do the right thing on the front end.”
