Mr. Wiseman’s practice is primarily devoted to client counseling and patent prosecution, including interferences and reexaminations, in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical arts. He has appeared as an expert in ANDA cases. He is also very familiar with the technology transfer process in universities, federal labs and pharmacies and licensing and has also appeared as an expert.
Mr. Wiseman is a Martindale-Hubbell AV Rated attorney and is or has been a member of the American Bar Association, American Chemical Society, American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American University Technology Managers, Biotechnology Industrial Organization, Intellectual Property Owners Association and Licensing Executive Society. In 2017, Mr. Wiseman was recognized as an “Attorney of the Year” by the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, which operates the Georgia PATENTS pro bono program.
Before joining SGR, Mr. Wiseman had over 15 years of experience in the private sector at various law firms including Venable, Baetjer, Howard, Civiletti LLP, Morrison & Foerster, LLP and Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro (Cushman, Darby and Cushman, LLP). He is familiar with patent portfolio management, licensing and both domestic and foreign patent prosecution. Mr. Wiseman spent 19 years at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, first as an Examiner, then as a Supervisory Patent Examiner and finally as an Examiner-in-Chief (Administrative Patent Law Judge). He spent three years with the Office of Technology Transfer at National Institutes of Health, where he supervised the patent branch.
Mr. Wiseman received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Long Island University in 1969. He earned his J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore and a M.S. degree in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Wiseman is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Virginia State Bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
