Joseph Karam is a Senior Associate in the Litigation Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP. He is located in the Chicago office and is currently barred in Washington D.C. He is working to be admitted in Illinois.
Joseph has experience conducting legal research and factual investigations into commercial matters, corporate governance affairs, and post-judgment collection actions. He possesses experience in all phases of litigation and arbitration matters. Joseph has briefed and argued federal appellate cases; prepared briefing on dispositive and other motions in state and federal court; and conducted and defended depositions in complex commercial matters. He has also participated in arbitrations, as well as in multiple mediations resulting in settlements.
Prior to joining the firm Joseph worked as an associate for a litigation boutique that handled trial and appellate work at both the state and federal level, as well as domestic and international arbitrations. Before that he worked as a legal clerk for the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management within the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where he helped to prepare for hearings and propose changes to disaster legislation.
Joseph earned his J.D. with Highest Honors from the George Washington University Law School in D.C., where he was a member of the George Washington Law Review and Order of the Coif.
When not working, Joseph enjoys practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu and performing volunteer and advisory services for urban debate programs.
