Michael K. Desmond is a Partner in the Litigation Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP. Mr. Desmond has vast experience handling a variety of complex business matters, including accounting and legal malpractice, shareholder litigation, construction litigation, corporate investigations, bankruptcy reorganizations and bankruptcy-related litigation. In addition, he has trial experience in both federal and state court.
A certified public accountant (CPA), Mr. Desmond previously served as an adjunct faculty member at DePaul University College of Law, where he taught basic financial accounting for lawyers. Prior to joining the practice of law, Mike served as assistant controller for Mid America Bank.
Mr. Desmond has been appointed to serve on the private panel of bankruptcy trustees maintained by the U.S. Trustee for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and Central District of Illinois. Mr. Desmond is a member of the 7th Circuit Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and he has been recognized by his peers as a leading lawyer in commercial litigation.
Prior to joining SGR, Mr. Desmond served as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the U.S. Trustee, where he handled a variety of bankruptcy-related litigation and complex business reorganizations. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) from Northern Illinois University and his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from John Marshall Law School.
