About Don

Donald B. Mitchell's real world industry experience and practical approach to complicated issues are the foundation of his practice. Aviation is complex by nature, but Don’s approach is simple: focus on solutions that work in the real world. No arguments for argument's sake. No seeking of "drafting nirvana". Clients want progressnot process.

What sets Don apart is that he speaks the industry language. His background, especially including aircraft and engine leasing and trading, gives him firsthand insight into how deals actually get done. That experience shapes the way he advises clients today, helping them cut through noise, anticipate issues early, and move transactions forward efficiently.

Clients rely on him not only to execute transactions, but also to shape fleet strategy, manage asset risk, and navigate restructurings or disagreements when projects encounter distress. He is regularly called upon to resolve high‑stakes conflicts through litigation, mediation, or expert testimony, and is valued for his ability to translate aviation economics into clear, actionable legal judgment.

Don started his legal career in Miami, Florida with an aviation defense litigation and commercial transactions practice firm. Before re-entering private practice, Don held senior business and legal roles at Delta Air Lines, where he led global aircraft and engine acquisition and disposition strategies and teamed with management in fleet planning and renewal initiatives. That combination of legal training and operational experience allows him to see issues from both sides of the table—legal and commercial. Clients value Don for his judgment, responsiveness, and steady focus on outcomes. His goal is always the same: help clients make smart decisions, manage risk, and keep their businesses moving forward.
