Eric D. Balber has more than 30 years’ experience representing and advising clients as both a transactional attorney and as outside general counsel. Mr. Balber listens to clients, learns about their businesses, and gives legal advice in the context of what really matters.
Among Mr. Balber’s clients are a large number of New York City cooperative and condominium boards, operating businesses and not-for-profits, including, for example, outdoor advertisers, manufacturers, retailers and church groups. Mr. Balber has extensive experience regarding acquisitions, dispositions, financings, leasing, construction-related agreements and technology issues, and has advised cooperative and condominium boards on the full range of issues that they face, including, among other things, corporate governance, internal dispute resolution, labor issues, building improvement projects, construction defects and disputes with sponsors.
Prior to joining SGR, Mr. Balber was a long time member of the firm of Balber Pickard Maldonado & Van Der Tuin, PC. Before entering private practice, Mr. Balber was counsel at the Legal Action Center, which was founded by the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to fight discrimination against people with histories of addiction, HIV/AIDS, or criminal records, and to advocate for sound public policies in these areas. Mr. Balber continues to sit on the Legal Action Center’s board.
In his spare time, Mr. Balber pursues interests in photography and digital imaging, cooking, marine aquaria, and travel.
