Dr. Sarah Sharman Joins SGR IP Dept. as Patent Science Advisor

SGR is pleased to announce that Dr. Sarah Sharman recently joined the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Department as a Science Advisor.  Working with the firm’s patent attorneys, Dr. Sharman will assist the firm’s clients with respect to patent application preparation and filing, and other patent-related matters.

Dr. Sharman is a recent graduate of Augusta University, where she received her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology.  While pursuing her degree, her research focused on increasing cGMP signaling in the colon mucosa through the use of PDE-5 inhibitors and GC-C agonists as a prevention and treatment strategy for various gastrointestinal (GI) diseases.  She received various awards while pursuing her Ph.D., was the co-author of eight peer-reviewed papers, and made presentations at major scientific conferences.  Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., Dr. Sharman received biology and psychology degrees from Birmingham-Southern College.

Dr. Sharman joins SGR’s growing IP Department, which currently includes more than 30 IP attorneys across our offices.  The firm’s patent practice includes 16 patent attorneys and patent professionals having technical and scientific expertise across a full range of disciplines, including electronics, computer, and software technology, mechanics, medical devices and technologies, chemistry and biotechnology.  All of the firm’s patent attorneys have degrees in engineering and the sciences, including some at the Masters and Ph.D. levels.

“We’re thrilled to have Sarah join us, and she will undoubtedly add important strength to our growing biotech and life sciences patent practice,” stated Greg Kirsch, the Head of the SGR IP Dept.  “We represent numerous clients in these fields, including universities and companies large and small, and Sarah will give our biotech and life science patent group additional bench strength as we help these clients create and execute on their patent strategies.”
